Winnie Lois Bowmer peacefully passed away on March 9, 2020, just short of her 99th birthday.
Winnie Lois was born March 21, 1921 to Myron P. “Doc” Hahn and Ida Shelburn Hahn. After graduating from Burnet High School in 1939, she married her childhood sweetheart Robert H. “Jimmy” Bowmer. During Jimmy’s military service, they lived in Wichita Falls, Topeka, Kansas and then transferring to Temple, Texas for 30 years. She was a housewife during most of their early years together. After her two children started school, she worked as Westside Drug Store as a sales representative until 1966, when she began her career as a loan officer for Texell Federal Credit Union (formerly Temple Area Credit Union) where she remained until her retirement in 1981. She was born to one of the pioneering founders of Burnet County. The land granting property was issued in 1832 and is still owned and operated by the Hahn decedents today.
A long time resident of Burnet County, Lois loved cooking, gardening, canning foods, investigating genealogy, and community activities. Her membership in local non-profit organizations include, but were not limited to: 45 year member of the Bethel Extension Education Club, 75 year member of the Burnet Chapter 425 Order of the Eastern Star, and was also a founding Charter member of the Jane Wells Woods Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. In her free time, she loved to play dominoes and was quite good up until the last year of her life. She also loved to paint-by-numbers during her younger years until moving back to Burnet. Of course, a simple game of solitaire played on the back of a checker board while watching tv.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters, Lucille Adams, Marie Evans, and Audrey Smith.
Survivors include her one daughter Lois Ann Cosper and her husband Harold Cosper, Sr.; son, Robert Brownlee Bowmer and his wife Pamela; six grandchildren, Harold Cosper Jr. (Mercy), Angela Cosper-Clinard (Tad), Cynthia Cosper, Jennifer Grant (Kenny), Jacki Chester, and Laura Monroe (Kevin); ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Her funeral was held on March 13, 2020 under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home. She is interred at the Bethel Community Cemetery.
