William W. “Bill” Hammer, 84, passed away on November 27, 2023.
A graveside service is planned for 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2023 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas. Officiating will be Damon Andrews.
Bill was born on April 6, 1939 in Taylor, Texas to Wesley Eugene William Hammer and Mary Elizabeth Condra Hammer.
He graduated from McCallum High School in 1957 and served in the Army Reserves. He also attended the University of Texas in Austin. From 1960 until 1969 he worked for Braniff Airlines, then from 1969 to 1977 he worked for Bluebonnet Electric Coop in Giddings, Texas. In 1975 he opened the Austin Sports Center and retired around 2002. He worked for the Burnet County Juvenile Probation Department when he moved to the highland lakes area.
Bill loved sports, especially Football, Baseball, and Golf. In 1951 he was the catcher & played on the runner up TEXAS team in the Little League World Series. He also built the golf course and club house along with two baseball fields in Giddings, Texas. He was a longtime Texas Longhorn fan and Dallas Cowboys fan.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Hammer and parents, Wesley and Mary Hammer.
He is survived by his son, Mike Hammer and his wife Dacia; daughter, Janie Moore; grandchildren, Dane Hammer, Greg Hammer and Julie Needler, Megan and Chris D’Antonio, Caleb Moore and Brittany Verner, Kara Moore and fiancé Zach Edington, and Corrie Moore; great granddaughter, Carrina D’Antonio; cousins, Jackie and Hal Caldcleugh, Sharon and Paul Treacy, and Marcy Patterson as well as many friends.
