William (Bill) Hamilton Traweek, 89, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on April 7, 2026. Bill was born May 13,1936, in Walhalla, SC, to Lawrence (Red) and Lila Traweek. His family moved a great deal, but Bill spent his high school years in Waycross, Georgia and called it home. There, he ran track, played football and made wonderful lifelong friends. Bill left school and joined the Army in 1955. He was trained as a surgery tech at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio and spent his entire four years of service working at the hospital at Ft. Campbell, KY. Upon leaving the service, he enrolled at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.
Bill's career at The Lofland Company, a supplier of highway materials, spanned 25 years. His job eventually required him to move his family from Dallas to Austin and to work closely with the Texas Highway Department and bid state highway and bridge jobs.
Fearlessness and unbelievable luck were his trademark. Retiring to Lake Buchanan, Bill became a voracious reader, spending time at the library and trading books within the family. His days were full of fishing, swimming and water skiing and were always followed by stargazing after a good meal. He loved to visit Terlingua in West Texas (hunting) and Port Aransas (his second home). Lesser-known loves of Bills included old cowboy movies, music, scuba diving and was always up for a good road trip. All the while, Bill could go from lake to desert and find the same peace, but mostly, he loved to follow his grandkids events through their high school and college years. He was a very proud Daddy Bill.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Preslar Traweek; his children: Teresa Kelly (Scott) and Culley Traweek (Esther); mother of his children: Helen Traweek; his grandchildren: Eric Kelly (Abby) and Marisa Kelly (John); and great granddaughter: Georgia Mae.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lila Welch Traweek, his father Lawrence (Red) Traweek, sister Bessie Jones and his first born son, Todd Hamilton Traweek.
