Wanita Katheryn Hutson Thying, 102, was gathered peacefully into the arms of her Savior Christ Jesus on December 10, 2025 at 6:34PM while she was in residence at the Oaks Nursing Center in Burnet, TX.
Wanita was born on December 4, 1923, in Gustine, Texas, and spent her youth in and around San Antonio, Texas. As an Army wife accompanying her husband’s tours of duty, their foreign postings included Germany, Bogota, Colombia, SA, Guatamala City, CA, and numerous stateside U.S. Army posts, including Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Holabird, MD, and Ft. Bragg, NC. Lunsford was a decorated veteran od WWII and the Korean War. Wanita and Lunsford had two children, Lee W. Thying and W. Kay Thying Cude.
After 32 years of active duty in the U.S. Army and upon Lunsford’s retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel, Wanita and Lunsford moved to Burnet to be near her parents Luther and Katheryn Hutson, her sister Wanda Cox (John), and her aunt Lucille Tipton (Voyle).
Wanita was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Katheryn (nee Kelley) Hutson, her son Lee W. Thying, and her beloved husband Lunsford whom she married in 1942.
Wanita is survived by her daughter Kay Cude of Burnet, grandson Matthew Allen Cude of New Braunfels, granddaughter Katheryn Marie Thying of Austin, nieces Sharyn Cox Opbroek of Highland Village, Linda Cox Pack of Marble Falls, and Constance Stark Nance of Austin, as well as many other cousins.
The family wants to express their heart-felt gratitude to the management, nurses, and staff of Oaks Nursing Center and Altus Hospice. Their combined expertise employed though selfless and loving attention to Wanita’s medical, physical, and emotional welfare is incalculable.
Wanita was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Burnet, TX. Funeral arrangements are entrusted in the hands of Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, TX. Wanita’s Memorial Service will be at Jenkins Funeral Home, at 11:00am, Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
