Sharon Hall Obituary

Sharon Gail Davidson Hall – Mom, Wife, Mimi, Friend, Cousin, Caregiver, Saint, and lover of Jesus!  Sharon was born December 10, 1947, to Clara Belle and John Barton Davidson at St. David’s hospital in Austin, Texas. She was raised in Liberty Hill on the San Gabriel River on the family farm.

Howard and Sharon first met at a Burnet football game, and they dated for 3 years before marriage. Howard and Sharon moved to Austin, Texas where she joined him after he entered the police academy, and they were married on September 30, 1967. They made Austin home and made many friends through the Austin Police Department and Mom’s 34-year career at IBM. During her time there Sharon progressively worked her way up the career ladder and made wonderful life-long friends that she always made sure to stay in touch with as she was as loyal as the day is long. Sharon waited until she was 50 years old to get her bachelor’s degree from St. Edwards University in 1999. In her 74 years she was an avid traveler and had the privilege of traveling to forty states and fifteen countries. They made sure their only child Emilie was exposed to their passion for travel at an early age. They would take off in the family car for 2 weeks each Summer and drive across the country to ensure she got to see most of the US. In their humble beginnings they went by car and then when Emilie was eight the family began flying to see famous landmarks such as Niagara Falls, Cape Cod, Disney World and Disneyland, the Rocky Mountains, Gulf Shores, Yellowstone National Park, Pikes Peak, and the Grand Canyon just to name a few. There were many trips to California and Mexico – too numerous to count. In 2001 and 2011 Sharon and Emilie went to Europe which included seeing Italy, Greece, Spain, France, and Monaco. All who knew Sharon would remark about how sweet she was, and Howard’s family knew she deserved the title of Saint for putting up with Howard’s Tomfoolery. Howard’s cousins especially his California cousins would remark how elegant and classy Sharon was and how she was always put together with her matching outfits and decked out with her jewelry and accessories.

There were a few things Sharon knew for sure. She knew that Clint Eastwood was the best actor, the Dallas Cowboys are America’s football team, Ronald Reagan was the best President of the US, Dolly Parton was the best female country singer with Loretta Lynn a close second, Texas A&M is the best damn university, peach cobbler is the best dessert, Italy is her favorite country to visit so she and Emilie went there twice, Port Aransas holds the best family memories, On Golden Pond is the best movie, George Strait is King of country music, a woman can never have enough purses, shoes, makeup, or jewelry, Thanksgiving is the best holiday, everyone should know how to grow their own garden,  and her beautiful picturesque back yard was the envy of many.

In 2016, Sharon decided to build a farmhouse on the land given to her by her parents. She spent many hours, blood, sweat, and tears building the perfect farmhouse with a wrap-around porch. She was incredibly pleased with her vision, and she decorated the home with shabby chic meets farmhouse décor.  Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and helping raise Greyson for the past 7 years and watching him explore the world through a child’s eyes. Sharon’s eyes lit up every time she had the opportunity to talk about her grandson Greyson who she thought hung the moon. They were very close since she was his primary caregiver during the day while Emilie was at work.  She, Great Grandma, and Greyson made many trips to Georgetown together for Great Grandma’s doctors’ appointments.  Every time they went, they always stopped at Bush’s chicken for Great Grandma’s favorite which became Greyson’s favorite fried chicken.  Her hope for Greyson is for him to someday graduate from Texas A&M, for him to marry and have children, and for him to pass the family land on to his children.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 54 years Howard Hall of Austin, her daughter and best friend Emilie Grant and her husband Cliff Grant along with their children Bella (16) and Greyson Grant (7).  Sharon was the middle child and is survived by her older brother Larry Davidson of Liberty Hill and his children Connie Haines of Burnet, Amy Enberg of Llano, and Larry Davidson of Bertram. She is also survived by her brother John Davidson Jr. and his wife Cassie and her children. Sharon has numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, along with numerous friends. She is also survived by her cousins Martha Pogue, Grover Davidson, Roger Davidson, Carl Isaacks, Judy Jones, Jennifer Venable, Diane Moore, Mark Simmons, and Jamie Norman. Sharon had two best friends that meant the world to her Jody Cromer of Ojai, California, and Peggy Eastabrook of Costa Rica.

If you knew Sharon, you saw the face of Jesus because somehow, she glowed in the darkest of circumstances fighting the beast—cancer for 15 months. Sharon is preceded in death by her Dad John Barton Davidson in 1990 and her Mom Clara Belle in 2021 and numerous other family members.  Sharon has always been very strong in her faith, and she faced the last 15 months courageously. She knew in her heart she would be welcomed in the arms of our Father, and she knew she would see her Dad & Mom as well as numerous family members in heaven.

In the last 2 weeks we read aloud the 23rd Psalm. “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”  Sharon loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace.  She is now soaring and at rest, enjoying the greatest miracle of all, the gift of eternal life.
