Roy Lyda made his transition into God’s kingdom on August 7, 2024, following a courageous 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. He was born in Burnet, Texas, on May 28, 1955, to Clyde and Ramona Lyda, both of whom have predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his loving wife, Beth.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Roy L. Lyda on October 26, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. as the ranch of Glenn Ringstaff, 4929 County Road 254, Bertram, Texas.
Friends and family are invited to attend the event which will feature food, music, and sharing of “Roy” stories. Iced tea and water will be provided; bring your own adult beverage of choice, as you wish. Tables will also be provided; please bring your outdoor chairs. For more information, contact Barbara J. DeHart at 830-265-0704 or Robn Zimmerman at 512-756-4630.
Roy was known for being a person of integrity and honesty in both his personal and professional dealings. He was admired for his knowledge and ability in many things, ranging from his AC and heating business of 40 years to his love of music. People trusted Roy, for he was a decent and honest soul.
His love of music was expressed in his ability not only to play the guitar, but to pick out the correct chords on it, after just hearing the melody to a sound track. He grew up playing music with his dad and Glenn Ringstaff, another man he greatly admired. Those evenings spent with treasured friend, Mike Garza, playing the “Stump the Band” game, gave him great joy. His love of all things automobile, and his ability to restore his beloved Mustang vehicles brought him great happiness, also. This was an outlet that he and his trusted friend, Todd Tatro, shared. His interest in target shooting created a world of enjoyment which he shared with his great friend, Charles Creager. If it was Saturday, those two had a gun show road trip planned. Lisa Escamilla was more than a friend to Roy, and much like a daughter by choice, as they shared their mutual respect and love each Father’s Day.
Roy is survived by his Life Partner of many years, Barbara DeHart, with whom he shared an everlasting love and a great friendship. He is also survived by his treasured sister, Robin Zimmerman and fiancé, Jimmy Moore; his brother, Andy Lyda and wife, Tisha; his sister, Gina Hanhart and husband, Elmer; niece, Cecilia Ettinger, husband, Bubba, and daughter, Aubri; nephews, Erich Hanhart, wife, Abigael, and children, Reiner and Nathaniel, and Ethan Lyda and sons, Stetson and Tucker.
He is also survived by a large host of lifetime friends who have been true and steadfast over the years and greatly valued by both Roy and Barbara. Thank you to all who have brought their love and friendship and support and food during our hospital stays and to our home. Thank you to those who prayed steadfastly for Roy’s well being. Special thanks are given to Altus Hospice staff, particularly Melissa, Tracy, Brandy, Casey, and Jordon, for giving not only your best support but going way beyond. Also, Shyanne Lerma, we recognize you for the helpful, loving, and supportive care you gave Roy. We love and appreciate you all.
