"PeeWee" Leland Craig, Jr. Obituary

Leland Al Craig, Jr, lovingly known as Pee Wee, passed away at his Burnet home on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020. He was 70 years old. Pee Wee was born on Sept. 30, 1949 in Amarillo, TX. He married the love of his life, Laura Yvonne Hasler Craig on July 30, 1977 and the two spent 43 years happily married.

Pee Wee was known for many things throughout his life. He was an entrepreneur, a lover of all living things from every creature big and small to beautiful flowers, camping, fishing, and most of all his family. He never met a stranger, he helped everyone he crossed paths with, and people will tell you he was the most loving, honest, and reliable person, someone you could really count on. A perfect day for him was a simple one; it included things like mowing his yard and pretty much anyone else’s that would let him, sitting in his barn visiting with his boys and friends, a cup of black coffee in the morning while sitting on his porch watching the humming birds, or waking up in his camper literally anywhere. He and Nana could often be found in their camper in their own driveway. To best describe him would be to say he wanted people to be happy, he wanted all animals to be loved, and he truly understood the value of a hard day’s work. He will be missed by so many, but everyone who knew him is a better person because of it.

Pee Wee was a hard worker all his life. He spent time working at Dawson Geophysical and Delta Materials before opening his first business with his wife, a pet store, Craigs Party Animals, that they both loved and ran for years. After that the two owned K-9 design dog grooming, and most recently the Wet your Whistle drive through beverage barn in Burnet.

Pee Wee was proceeded in death by his mother and step-father Myrtle Maxine Goble and Louie Goble, and his father Leland Craig, Sr. Also preceded in death by his sister Mary Elizabeth Gay, brother Edgar Lee Craig, Sr., and beloved brother-in-law Bill Rodgers Steward.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Craig. As well as children Leland Al Craig, III and wife Jennifer; Mary Watson; Wayne Craig and wife Monica; and Edgar Lee Craig, Jr. and wife Debra.

Also survived by brothers and sisters Linda Steward, Debra Nickels, Leslie Craig and wife Jeanette.

As well as eight grandchildren Cortney, Jathan, Wesley, Taylor, Jeston, Casey, Jayci, and Roger.

Pee Wee has nine great-grandchildren as well as countless nieces and nephews.
