Paula Jean Dalke

July 21, 1933 ~ July 25, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Paul Jean Dalke was born on July 21, 1933, to Herbert Shawn and Angie Day Shawn in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Paula graduated from High School in Oklahoma City in 1951, attended technical training, and worked as a Comptometer Operator.  On her birthday in 1954, Paula met Edgar Dalke at Spring Lake swimming pool.  She and Ed were married on October 9th, 1954.

Paula gave birth to three children:  Angela Dalke Albright, Brian Dalke, and David Dalke.   Paula was a homemaker while raising her children.  After her children were grown, Paula often worked as a retail clothing sales associate and eventually a World Book Encyclopedia sales representative.  It was during her travelling sales calls she often gave Bibles to her clients after sharing her Christian faith.  Paula was confident and bold in sharing her faith in Christ.   Paula was an accomplished seamstress who made elaborate dresses for her daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and many friends.  In addition to her creative sewing, Paula was a competent, if not reluctant, slalom water skier, having learned at Newport Beach, California and continuing to prove she could do it throughout her children’s lives.

Paula was a generous and helping person throughout her life.  While caring for her father during his final years while suffering with Parkinson’s disease, Paula was the cofounder of a Parkinson’s support group to provide social and exercise activities for those stricken with the disease in the Houston area.  After her father’s death, Paula befriended and helped many other seniors she met during this time.  After retirement, Paula invited her “Aunt Velma” to come live with her and Ed, caring for Velma during Velma’s final years.

Throughout her life, Paula was a well-travelled lady following Ed through many of his career moves to Ohio, California, Florida, and ultimately Texas.  After their retirement, Paula and Ed moved to their home on the Colorado River in Burnet, Texas.  At their Shangri-La home, Paula continued her generous spirit by hosting family and friends to many enjoyable lake weekends, often watching her grand children for extended visits.  During their retirement years, Paula and Ed travelled throughout the world on numerous Viking River Cruises and several Bible seminar trips, including to The Holy Land in Israel.

Paula was stricken by the horrible disease of dementia during the last several years of her life.  But even during this time, when asked how she was doing, she would answer with a smile “I’m doing OK” and ask “how are you doing.”  Her family thanks the kind caregivers who watched over Paula during her final years at Harmony Point Memory Care and lastly at Double Creek Memory Care.

Paula was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother Gerald Shawn.  Paula is survived by her husband, Edgar Dalke, and her children Paulette Albright of Enid Oklahoma; Brian Dalke, Captain of the Sailing Vessel - Time Drifter - currently in Australia; David Dalke and his wife Debbie, of Austin Texas; her grandchildren Dana Dalke De Guzman and husband Dale of San Antonio; Douglas Dalke and wife, Annalisa of Lubbock; and her great grandson Riley Knox De Guzman of San Antonio.

We are relieved Paula’s earthly suffering is over.  We remember and celebrate her life and rejoice that she has gone ahead to prepare for her family’s ultimate home coming in Heaven.  Christ is Risen!
