Nelda Joyce Hodges Covington

Nelda Joyce Hodges Covington, 88, passed away on July 6, 2025.

Born to Ira Zachary and Vernie Lee Stroud on February 5, 1937, Nelda took her first breath in Heaven on August 6th, 2025. 

She is survived by her husband Woody Covington of Snyder Texas, four children; Sherry Bingham of Granbury Texas, John Hodges of Clovis New Mexico, Virginia Logan and James Hodges of Burnet Texas, two sisters, Judy Mullins of Lubbock Texas and Carolyn Hanner of Comanche Texas, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William B. Hodges, one sister and two brothers.

She was blessed to find her second love, Woody Covington and they were married on June 25th, 2023.  They resided in Snyder Texas.

Nelda wanted to be remembered as a fervent Christian, loving and faithful wife and good mother.  She was so much more than that.  She was an extraordinary woman who had an unconditional love for God, her family and her friends.  She had a passion and great talent for oil painting and loved crafting.  She loved and nurtured four children and was a faithful wife to Bill until his death in 2015.   She saw her family through many trying times with strength, determination and grace.

Nelda never met a stranger.  She loved people and would often meet someone wherever she happened to be and walk away with a new friend.  She was never afraid to try new things she found interesting.  Thus, she was a very talented artist, leaving behind a legacy of art that will be treasured by those who are blessed to have her paintings. 

She was a long-time member of the Bertram Church of Christ until her marriage to Woodie when she became a member of the Church of Christ in Snyder. 

A memorial service will be held at the Bertram Church of Christ on August 9th, 2025, at 2:00 pm.  Nelda will be interred with Bill at the VA Cemetery at Killeen Texas at a later date.
