Mildred "Millie" Barrett Obituary

Mildred Helen Giebel Barrett (Millie), 93, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at home in Burnet, Texas.

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkins Funeral Home, formerly Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St, Burnet, Texas.  Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas.   Millie will lie in repose at Jenkins Funeral Home beginning Thursday evening. No formal visitation is scheduled.

Millie was a Burnet resident for over 50 years, where she enjoyed working as a cashier or clerk at various stores.  She had a vibrant personality and collected friends everywhere she went.  She enjoyed bowling until her health interfered at age 85.  Millie was a deer hunter and managed to bag her limit every year.  She loved giving to others and always had something to give to visitors or those she visited.  Millie enjoyed gardening and cooking almost as much as she did shopping.  One of Millie’s greatest pleasures was crocheting blankets as a volunteer for the Linus Connection, which provides homemade security blankets to children in foster homes, emergency shelters and hospitals in the Highland Lakes area.  She was the second volunteer when the organization was formed in 2002 and provided over 5000 blankets through the years.

Millie was born in Taylor, Texas on May 31, 1926 to Annie Pruch Giebel and Eddie Giebel, one of seven children.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, three sisters, and her husband Al Barrett.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Kenneth Bibles. Several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and many very dear friends.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Linus Connection, 4007 Varner Court, Austin, TX 78732 or to Baylor Scott and White Hospice, 2401 S, 31st st, MS AR-195, Temple, TX 76508 or lastly, Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center, 1001 North Hill, Burnet, TX 78611.
