Lloyd Kroeger Obituary

Lloyd C. Kroeger passed from his earthly life on February 06, 2020 in his hometown of Burnet, Texas. He was 96 years old. He was born to W. A., Sr. (Bill) and Grace Charpiot Kroeger on April 11, 1923. Lloyd and his twin brother, Vernon, were the youngest of eight children. The Kroeger family stayed in Burnet and was involved in many different community businesses throughout Lloyd’s life.

Lloyd met his high school sweetheart, Marie Pogue, when they were freshmen. The two graduated from Burnet High School in 1941. Lloyd enlisted in the Army Air Corp and flew 35 missions over Europe during WWII, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. When he returned from military service he married Marie on November 9, 1944. Last November the couple celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary.

Lloyd and Marie welcomed two daughters, Cindy and Susan, to their family while they lived in Burnet. In 1970 they moved to Brownwood, Texas and later to Austin. They returned to Burnet when Lloyd retired in 1992.

Lloyd was self-employed all of his life. He tried his hand at farming and ranching and went into partnership with his brother, John, in a farm equipment business, Kroegers Truck & Implement Co., for several years during the 1950’s. After that Lloyd had a private trucking business that hauled road base material for many of our current Texas highways.

Lloyd was a member of the Vanderveer Street Church of Christ in Burnet. He was always eager to visit with you and had a keen interest in others, especially family members.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, W.A. and Grace Kroeger; sister, Lillian Kroeger; brothers, Charlie, Bill, John, Joe, Al, and Vernon Kroeger; and son-in-law, Craig Middlebrooks.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marie; daughters, Cindy Middlebrooks and Susan Barnett and husband, Phil; granddaughters, Amye Dooley and husband, Tim, of Melissa; Lezlee Zorn and husband, Jeremy, of San Antonio; and Lillie Thomas and husband, Mark, of Abilene; seven great-grandchildren:  Rex, Mara, Leyna, Karlie, Lily Kate, Kamber and Kaylee; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
