Born in Burnet, Texas on December 5, 1947, Laverne Smith, 78, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving on June 21, 2026. 

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Johnnie Alvin Smith, and her parents, Maggie and Hollis Marx.

Laverne is survived by her children, Elva Neil Smith, Patricia Smith Rudd, and Steve and Mindie Smith.  She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; Jason Smith, Johnnielee Rudd, Jayden and Ciera Rudd, Alyssa, Triston and Jenifer Smith, Trenton Smith, Austin Long, Tyler McMillan, Christopher, Josh and Hollis Smith, and many great grandchildren.

Laverne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family.  She was known for her delicious home-style cooking, her quiet wisdom, and the remarkable intuition that guided so many of those that she loved.  Her home was always a [lace of warmth and comfort.  She also had a playful spirit that kept everyone on their toes.  You never knew when she might be hiding behind a door or around a corner, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to make you jump and then laugh right along with you.  Those little surprises became some of the many cherished memories her family will always hold close.
