Lavern Burk Obituary

Lavern Nell Burk was born August 23, 1935 in Blanco, Tx to Hubert & Nellie Burk.  As a result from serious life-threatening complications during her birth, Lavern faced a lifetime of various physical challenges.   In addition to these, another significant setback occurred during her early childhood, when her mother passed away from pneumonia.

Lavern subsequently moved to Burnet, where she lived with her father, grandmother & aunts for several years.  During that extended time together and the closeness in age to her aunts, Lavern became more like a sister to them, sharing daily stories, household chores, & earnest love for each other.  After each of her aunts married and moved away, Lavern remained in Burnet with her father and grandmother until each of them passed away.

Lavern then moved to Lampasas, where she became a resident at Lampasas Nursing & Rehab, which became home for almost 40 years.  In addition to the loving care that she received from the nursing home staff, she also received daily visits from Mamie & Lois for many years.  Johnnie & Alberta maintained frequent contact by phone, where they enjoyed reminiscing about the "good times" and discussing current family & health matters.

Lavern loved everyone... and everyone loved Lavern.  She was always smiling, and enjoyed hugs, laughing, & drinking chocolate shakes.

Lavern is survived by her aunt, Johnnie Burk Smith of Arlington; cousins:  Glenda January Rogers of Lampasas, Ron Smith of Boerne, Brenda Owens Scott of Pflugerville, Rick Smith of Arlington, Mark Owens of Austin, & Keith Owens of Fairfield.

Lavern was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert & Nellie Burk; uncles:  Herman Burk of Burnet, & Jim Burk of San Antonio; aunts:  Mamie Burk King of Lampasas, Lois Burk January of Lampasas, & Alberta Burk Owens of Austin.

Psalm 23: 1-6
The Lord is my shepherd;  I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:  He leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul;  He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:  for thou art with me;  Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:  Thou anointest my head with oil;  my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:  and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
