John Cox Obituary

John David Cox, 102, was born on November 3, 1917.  He went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2020.  He was much loved and remained smiling until the end.

A private graveside service will be held in John’s honor with interment at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas.

John was a World War 2 veteran of the Air Force and served 20 years until his retirement in 1960. He served in the European Theatre, Australia, New Guinea, and Japan.  He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for 50 plus missions over enemy territory.

He married Wanda Hutson in 1945 and they were married for 74 years until her passing in 2019.  He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Burnet.  He was also an active volunteer, volunteering at the Burnet Library and LeCare until his age and health forced him in retirement. 

He leaves behind two daughters, Sharon Opbroek (Mike), and Linda Pack (John); two grandchildren, David Wilson and Missy Barrington (Bryan); four great grandchildren, Adam Wilson, Mara Wilson, Scott Barrington, and Brooke Barrington as well as many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements under the care of Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.
