Jo Ann Alexander Obituary

JoAnn Hardwick Alexander was born on September 1, 1934 to Charles Hardwick and Neva Hardwick in Mullin, Texas and passed away on September 13, 2022 in Caldwell, Texas.

A graveside service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2022, at Tow Cemetery, Tow, Texas.

She attended school in Burnet until the death of her father and then moved to San Angelo where she graduated from high school in 1952.  JoAnn continued to return to Burnet to visit her best friend, Johanna Montgomery.  One of these visits lead her to meeting the love of her life, Newton Alexander.  They were married on November 29, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas.  That union was blessed with five children.

After her five children were born, she went to college to become a nurse.  But her first love and the biggest joy of her life was being a stay-at-home mom.  She enjoyed reading and had read the Bible from cover-to-cover dozens of times.  She loved a good debate over religion, politics, geology, outer space, and that her grandchildren were the best.  She was a very intelligent person and won most of her debates.

Her stories were the best.  The grandchildren loved to hear Momma Jo tell them stories about their parents.

She was a wonderful cook.  To name some of our favorites: her dressing, her fudge, her spam salad, scrambled egg sandwiches, french onion dip, orange ball candy at Christmas, her corn dogs, and jalapeno corn.  We realize these sound like very simple recipes.  We all have the recipes but we just can’t make it as good as she did.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Neva Ray and Charles Hardwick, her husband of 56 years, Newton Alexander, her daughter, Tracy and her husband William Christian.

JoAnn is survived by her son Craig (LouAnn) Alexander of Burnet; daughters, Lisa (Joe) Knoy, Caldwell, Bonta (Rob) Fitzwater of Baytown, and Tonya (Richie) Cravens of Caldwell.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Sunya (Chris) Denton of Burnet, Starla (Jordan) Martin of Celina, Josh Lloyd of Caldwell, James (Heather) Hatfield of LaPorte, Tasha (Billy) Prescott of Longview, Cody (LeeAnn) Cravens of New Braunfels, Kiah Cravens of Caldwell, and Neva Cravens of Caldwell.  The youngest but the ones she loved so, her great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Journey, Jett, Jagger, Judd, Jase, Zack, Zeke, Riley, Carter, Kent, Kenna, Kyler, Kase, and Kynder.  Also, in-laws Doris Alexander, Annie Bell (Jerry) Ramsey, and Patsy (Kelley) Thomas.
