Jane Richards of Burnet peacefully passed from this earth to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16, 2023, in the Wesleyan Skilled Nursing Facility in Georgetown, Texas. Her 98 years of life are leaving a very special legacy.
Jane was born on Friday, September 13, 1925, in Ding Dong, Texas. (Just goes to show that Friday the 13th is actually a good day!) Her parents were I.B. (Bert) and Dovie (Dick) Bell. She had two brothers, Denny and Bud, and three sisters, Hollie Miller, Elwanda Medart and Yvonne Harton.
She attended grade school in Maxdale and then graduated from Killeen High School in May of 1943.
She was married to Douglas Roy Richards on October 23, 1943 in Houston, Texas. They lived the majority of their 66 years of marriage in Burnet, Texas. This is where they raised their two children, Bill Richards and Betty Richards Kelley.
She was the owner/operator of “The Bulldog Drive-In” which was famous all around central Texas for their charcoal broiled grilled burgers.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Burnet for many years. She also thoroughly enjoyed her time serving as a Pink Lady at the Sheppard Memorial Hospital.
Mamaw, as she was called by her grandchildren, Zachary Kelley and Alyssa Kelley Deckard, was always thrilled to be part of family time. Later her great grandbabies also became a large portion of her life and brought much joy to her.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas (Doug) Roy Richards and her parents, Isaac Bertram and Dovie Bell. She is survived by her son, Bill and wife Terri Richards of Dublin, her daughter Betty and husband Marcus Kelley of Georgetown, her grandson Zachary and wife Laura Kelley of Temple and granddaughter Alyssa and husband Justin Deckard of Katy. Her great grandchildren are Jaxon & Hannah Jane Deckard and Cooper & Hunter Kelley. She also has a very dear sister-in-law, Carole Freeman and a number of other family members.
Janie's family ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown at peoplesharingjesus.com.
Arrangements under the care of Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.
