Janice Lavern (Hall) Smith Obituary

Janice Laverne Hall Smith, 83, of Burnet, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24th.

Born into a large, close-knit Hill Country family, Janice grew up surrounded by the laughter, chaos, and deep bonds that come from having eight brothers and sisters.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Pat Smith, who passed unexpectedly in 1981, just 2 days before her birthday. She carried his memory with her, as well as a significant hole in her heart from that loss, every day since.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Clyde Hall, as well as numerous siblings, including Larry Hall, Mary Hudgins, Harold Hall, Barbara Ferguson, Evelyn Meador Cain, and Peggy Thompson.

She is survived by her brother Howard Hall and sister Patty Thompson (Dennis), who will forever cherish the bond they shared. She is also survived by her children; Cindia Talamantez (William, known by most as Tally), Chad Smith (Wendy), & Clayton Smith (Karen).

Her grandchildren — Jeanna Mays (Austin) and Travis Adams (Tristen); Courtney and Haylea Smith; and Hannah Smith, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She delighted in watching them grow and offered the kind of steady encouragement and direction that only a grandmother could give. Janice is also survived by her great‑grandchildren, Riggan, Laramie, Preslee & Haylee, Amaya, Knox, Addy & Layne.

With a family as large as hers, Janice was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her kindness, humor, and unwavering love.

Janice was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ & we have absolutely no doubt where she is today.

Pallbearers are Travis Adams, Dennis Ferguson, Randy (Buff) Meador, Todd Morris, Austin Mays, Phillip Brizendine & Lee Ischy. Honorary Pallbearers are Riggan Mays & Layne Adams.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28th from 5:30-7:30 at Jenkins Funeral Home at 109 N. Main in Burnet.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 29th at 10 am at Vanderveer St. Church of Christ at Vanderveer & Hwy 29, with burial following at the Post Mountain cemetery.

In remembrance of Mom, the family asks that all please dress in bright colored clothing as we celebrate her life as she loved the flowers & birds.  In lieu of flowers that won't last but a few days, we ask that you make a donation to either the Medina Children’s Home or the Cherokee Home for Children (in Cherokee Tx) in Janice's name.

All care & services under the direction of Jenkins Funeral Home in Burnet.  On behalf of the family; Thank you to Greg Jenkins & staff for the respect & dignity shown towards Mom & our family.
