James Hoover Obituary

James Hoover of Burnet, Texas, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Burnet, Texas. 

Funeral Services are planned for 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church, 4150 TX -29 Burnet, TX 78611 followed by burial at Hoover Valley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home.

James is survived by children James Curtis “Curt” and his wife Susan, John Andrew “Andy” and his wife Brandi Deanne, Jenifer and her husband Lonnie Harrod, Sonia Hoover Tucker, Vanessa Hoover, Monique Hoover Hart and her husband Bo Hart.  Grandchildren Megan age 35, JC age 21, Branson age 21, Zacharias age 21, Hayden age 20, Orion age 21, Ezekiel age 20, Noah age 20, Zoi age 18, Zeb age 17, Landon age 16, Zeña age 15, Joseph age 15, Gabriella age 15, Zelotes age 13 and Zenora age 13.  Great grandchildren Seth age 14 and Wesley age 5.  Sisters Faye and husband Charles Brinkley, Kay Pulliam and Anna and husband Lewis Arnold.  Sisters-in-law Vivian Hoover and Elaine Hoover.

James is preceded in death by his wife Geraldine “Gerri” Hoover, father Martin Lewis Hoover, Sr. and mother Bessie Lyda Hoover, his brother Winfred and wife Edith Hoover, Wanda and husband JB Harris, John Hoover, Martin Lewis Hoover, Jr., Eugene Hoover, brothers-in-law Charles Schlather and Harold Dunn, also by son Tony Hoover.

Born James C. Hoover on March 17, 1938, in Tobyville, Texas to Martin Lewis Hoover, Sr. and Bessie Lyda Hoover, he was one of 9 children.  James’ family moved to Burnet from Fairland in 1941.   He spent his childhood farming and ranching in Burnet county.  He loved playing football in high school.

After high school he attended seminary at Bible Baptist Seminary in Arlington, and worked building houses.  He met the love of his life, Geraldine in Burnet.

James and Gerri were married on October 7, 1961 in San Angelo, and established their family in Burnet. James and Gerri had three sons; Curt born in Burnet in 1963.  A short while later they moved to Colorado where James pastored a church there.  Tony was born in 1966, while they lived in Colorado.  After they moved back to Burnet, Andy was born in 1971 in Burnet, daughter Jenifer was born in 1973 in Burnet.  Because of their huge hearts, love of family and their faith in God, their family grew larger with Sonia born 1982, Vanessa born 1984, and Monique born 1989.

James and Gerri lived on a farm in Burnet, and really enjoyed vacationing with their kids while visiting friends in Colorado.  He spent his life farming and ranching on the ranch he grew up on and was a pastor for over 50 years, dedicating his life to God and his family.  Because of his love of God, Heaven is a lot fuller.

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
