Jack Moran Obituary

Jack Greer Moran was born In Dallas, Texas on November 11, 1926 and passed away October 6, 2019 in Burnet, Texas.  He was adopted through Hope Cottage after being left on the door step of Horace Bruce and Leta Moran.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, H.B. Moran.

Jack grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. He was an avid reader, even at a young age, and was allowed to skip a grade in school. He graduated from Sunset High School in 1945.  As a boy, he held numerous jobs including bicycle delivery boy in downtown Dallas, “duck pin” setter in a bowling alley, magazine sales, pharmacy delivery boy and “soda jerk” in the same pharmacy.  Following graduation he began his work career at Southern Union Gas as a purchasing agent and continued this with various companies.  He retired from U.S. Brass in Abilene in 1992.

Jack met Ruby McKnight while they both were singing in the All-city chorus made up of choruses from churches of Christ in Dallas.  They sang on WBAP radio and in a live Christmas show on KRLD radio.  Jack married Ruby on May 10, 1948 and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.  Together, they loved to travel, entertain in their home, laugh and sing.  Jack was a train buff, especially steam engines, having a model train permanently set up in the living room in Abilene.

Jack served as a deacon at Highland Park Church of Christ.  He used his beautiful tenor voice to lead congregational singing there and at several churches in Dallas and then in Richardson. He taught Bible classes and read Bible stories to his daughters, sharing his love for God and the scriptures.  He also read books to them at bedtime, especially Winnie-the-Pooh, creating character voices to entertain them.

Jack is survived by his wife, Ruby, daughter Coleen Meyer (husband Mike) of Cedar Park, daughter Shelda Floyd (husband Jack) of Burnet, granddaughter Katy Beaver (husband Bruce) of Belton, grandson Daniel Floyd (wife Jessica) of Dallas and 4 great grandchildren: Caleb, Peyton, Ethan and Charlotte.
