Iva Aleene (Turner) Morris

Iva Aleene Morris, 99, of Bertram, Texas, passed from this life on March 24, 2022.

Aleene was born on July 4th, 1922 to J. L. (Dee) Turner and Ada Collier Turner of Cow Creek. She always liked to say that her birthday was celebrated with fireworks. 

After graduating from Bertram High School in 1939, she went on to marry the love of her life, W. G. (Gerald) Morris on March 1, 1941. The two were rarely seen apart; when you saw one, you almost always saw the other. Together, they welcomed two daughters and three sons into the world, where they raised them on the banks of Cow Creek and Travis Peak. They were married for almost 56 years before Gerald’s passing in January, 1997. After Gerald’s passing, Aleene sold their beloved acreage and homestead on Lake Travis and moved to Bertram to be closer to her children. 

Always healthy and ageless, Aleene was still able to take out a piñata at her 97th birthday party. She was able to live by herself in her home until her final few weeks. Her infectious smile, love of family, and sheer love of life will never be forgotten, and she will be dearly missed by all who loved her.Aleene was predeceased by husband Gerald Morris; mother and father, Ada and Dee Turner; four sisters, Lucille McAnally, Murle Chambers, Joyce Morris, and Minnie Jo Phelps; four brothers, D. J. (Dick) Turner, G. H. (Son) Turner, D. L. (Punk) Turner, and Gordon Turner; and son-in-law, Ted Baker. She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine Baker, and Bonnie Potts and husband Eddie; three sons, W. G. (Junior) Morris, Jr. and wife Darnell, Larry Morris and wife Barbara, and Danny Morris and wife Sheryl; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bertram Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassion and dedication to Aleene and her family during the past several weeks. 

Graveside services are planned for 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Smithwick Cemetery, Smithwick, Texas. A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 28, 2022, at Jenkins Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St., Burnet, Texas. Services will be officiated by Ronnie Brooks. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Potts, Greg Baker, Todd Morris, Blake Morris, Tony Rawls, and Brandon McBeath. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Morris and Aiden Morris.
