Helen Royce Deggs Wallace, 89, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025.
Graveside services are planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
Helen was born on December 15, 1935, in Livingston, Polk County, Texas to Elmer Deggs and Myrtle Tullos Deggs.
While attending college at Sam Houston State University, she met the love of her life, Dr. Norman Ercell Wallace, Jr. They married on December 21, 1957, at the Baptist Church in Cleveland, Texas and were married 64 years until Norman’s passing in February of 2022. Helen completed her studies in Journalism and later wrote several published articles. In 1986, she received her teaching certificate and taught kindergarten until she retired in Skidmore, Texas.
Helen and Norman loved to travel, and she loved to gamble. They were avid “cruise enthusiasts” and had numerous friends who traveled with them. She loved to travel with her grandchildren and being in the presence of family members. She had lots of adventures and “sister trips” to gambling casinos.
Helen is survived by son, Kory Wallace (Cindy) of Burnet, Texas, and son, Kyle Wallace of Beeville, Texas; two grandchildren, Cooper (Michelle) and Nash Wallace; two great grandchildren, Winter and Ember; brother-in-law, Don Wallace; sister-in-law, Amber Branch; sisters, Carol Prestenbach, Faye Martin, and Martha Jane Cooke; brother, Phillip Deggs, numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Myrtle; husband, Norman; sister-in-law, Pat; brother, John; sister, Eltha; brother-in-law, Frank; sister-in-law, Joyce; brother-in-law, Duff, and son-in-law, Don Womack.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Coleen’s Cottage in burnet, Texas for the excellent care and compassion for Helen.
