Harold Dean Hammons passed away on December 20, 2023, in Burnet, Texas. He was 88 years old.
A Texas native, Harold grew up in Spicewood, attending lower grades at what is now called the Old Spicewood Community Schoolhouse. Graduating from Marble Falls High School at the age of 16, Harold left Spicewood to attend Abilene Christian College.
After earning a Business Administration degree in 1955, Harold worked with Humble Oil and Exxon, living in Arizona and Oregon. During this time, he married Doris Sarratt. They had two sons, Hal and Paul; their daughter, Amy, was born after relocating to Texas.
Harold retired from the Texas Department of Health in 1995. In his younger years he spent his free time hunting, fishing, and playing sports. In retirement, he pursued his love of golf and made new friends with fellow players.
Devoted Christians, Harold and Doris have worshiped with the Oaks West church of Christ in Burnet since 1999. Harold counted his spiritual family among his greatest blessings, as well as his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Harold and Doris enjoyed a full and happy life together that included travel, museums, concerts, plays, and sports. Harold passed away on their 60th wedding anniversary.
Service participants: George Gresham, Clay Hallmark, Jim Johnson, Robert Moore, Darrell Trammell, and Jim Turner.
