Obituary for Gail Ray Blue, Sr. “Papa”
Our precious Dad and Papa, Gail Ray Blue, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home in Burnet, Texas on June 24, 2021. He was surrounded by his beloved family until his last breath.
He was born on February 8, 1937 in the small
town of Hartzo, Texas. He was the sixth of nine children of William Ernest and Eva Dell (Stevens) Blue. His childhood was humble yet rich in family and love. Dad was raised in a godly home founded upon the truth of God’s Word.
On December 15, 1958, he married the love of his life, our beautiful Momma, Bertie Sue Turner. Each coming from large families, they carried on that tradition by having nine children themselves. Sadly, two of the children were stillborn yet their memory always remained alive in their hearts. He loved our Momma and our family greatly and would do anything for us.
Throughout the years, he worked hard and held various jobs to provide for his family. He also enjoyed a period of time that he was able to work with his three sons in the fire sprinkler business. He was a man of many trades and could do anything he put his mind to.
One of his favorite past times was reading, especially the Bible. He also loved to go fishing and never passed up a good game of Othello. Most of all he loved to spend quality time with his family and friends. Dad truly was a servant with a servant’s heart toward God and towards people. He loved people and would never meet a stranger. He always went above and beyond to help others in need. Our Dad always made sure to follow God’s voice to minister to as many as possible one by one. He ministered to those in prison, and also visited the elderly in nursing homes. He was an altar worker and prayed with any one for as long as they needed to.
Dad was a devoted husband, loving father, caring Papa, trustful friend, and a servant of God. He stayed true till the end, through tough times he never gave up on God. He fought the good fight of faith. His legacy will live forever through his family and his prayers that are still going forth today.
Gail Ray Blue, Sr. is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bertie Sue Blue, baby girl Brenda Gayle, baby boy Randall Carl, his father William Ernest Sr. Blue, his mother Eva Dell Blue, brothers William Ernest Jr. and Delmas Wayne Blue, sisters Eva Mae Tannehill and Lera Lawis Coon.
He is survived by his seven children: Barbara (Doug) Fowler, Karen (Mark) Rabun, Ray Blue, Judy (Charles) Brooks, Ronnie Blue, Rodney (Elia) Blue, Cathy (Danny) Janson
17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
