Ferrill Dean Fount Standage

On April 23, 2024, Ferrill D. Standage, age 88, moved from his earthly home in Kingsland, TX, to his heavenly home with His Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Ferrill was born August 1, 1935, in Russell County, KS, to John and Virginia (Rolfs) Standage. He was reborn at First Christian Church, Fort Collins, CO, in 1976.

Ferrill spent his early years mostly in Kansas as his family moved to locations where his father worked in the oil fields. Many of his extended family were Kansas farmers, and he loved spending summers working and playing on their farms. Those experiences helped to develop a work ethic that carried into even his retirement years, but also developed his sense of humor that allowed him to take joy in whatever the Lord brought before him. His favorite pastimes of gardening, fishing, and hunting sprang from these years.

Ferrill attended Palco High School from 1949 to 1953. The close relationships he formed with his 23 classmates continued throughout his life. It was during his high school years that he began to sense a desire to be a teacher. After completing his undergraduate degree in education at Fort Hays State University, he began teaching at Holyrood, KS, in 1959. He later moved to Fort Collins, CO, where he continued his career as an elementary educator and completed his graduate degree in school administration at University of Northern Colorado. In 1982 he left Colorado to return to Kansas where he finished his 36-year career as an elementary and middle school principal in

Victoria, KS. He retired in 1995. Ferrill attended Westview Church in Hays, KS. After retiring from education, he ministered 10 years there as Associate Pastor. Upon moving to Texas, Ferrill attended Church at The Epicenter in Burnet, TX, where he served as an elder and Associate Pastor.  As a representative of The Epicenter, Ferrill served on the board of the local food pantry, LACare. Ferrill was a people person. He established close relationships wherever he went. He spent many vacations traveling to see friends and family, and spent countless hours on the phone calling or texting the people he loved.

He has two children from a prior marriage to Sundra Marcotte (deceased).

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; his two children: daughter Vicki Gillis of Loveland, CO, and son Jon Standage of Fort Collins, CO; and his grandson. Lucas Gillis of Loveland, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia; his father, John; and his brother, Rolf Standage.

A memorial service will be held at Church at The Epicenter on Friday, May 17, at 11 AM.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ferrill’s home church, Church at The Epicenter, PO Box 1051, Burnet, TX 78611,  or to LACare, PO Box 1115, Burnet, TX 78611.
