David F. Downing

David F. Downing, 78, passed away on February 9, 2021.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2021 at Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.

David was born in Long Beach, CA to Robert F. and Virginia Colscott Downing on January 13, 1943.  He worked for Texas Instruments and also was self employed with David's Handyman service.  Mr. Downing served the his country honorably in the U. S. Marine Corp and was active during the Bay of Pigs.  He served as Mayor of Gustine during the 1980s as well as the Lions Club.  He was a member of the Gustine Baptist Church.  David loved to travel, play Bingo, listen to music, ride motorcycles, and most of all spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene G. (King) Downing; children, Janalyn Downing Elkins and husband Kip, Robert Glen (Bobby) Downing an wife Kay, Lex Gene Matthews; grandchildren, Jake Reeves, Jason Reeves, Jayla Reeves, Jonathan Downing, Joshua Downing, Jennifer Downing, Taia Matthews, Brooklyn Matthews, and Lex Matthews; five great grandchildren; siblings, Gerri Downing Bennet, John downing, Jim Downing and wife Joanna; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in David's memory to the American Legion.
