Charles Thrasher Allen Obituary

Charles Thrasher Allen, 82, passed away on September 29, 2020.

On February 11, 1938, Charles Thrasher Allen was born in Slaton, Texas to parents Mary Jane Ott Allen and George Scott Allen Sr..  The Allen’s moved to Missouri with Thrasher for was some time.  His parents decided to move to Texas and settle down in Burnet. The family grew with four more siblings; Alice, Jonathan, George and Sarah.  Thrasher attended Burnet schools elementary through junior high and attended TMI Episcopal for high school.

    Thrasher attended college at Rice University, SMU and UT Austin. While attending UT Austin he and Judy dated and after a year they got engaged.  They were married at the First Baptist Church in Burnet on June 10, 1961.  Their first home was the Allen family farm outside of Marble Falls; they lived and worked the Pecan Orchard and cattle for five years. During this time he also worked as a high school science teacher in Johnson City. Their first child, Mary Pauline Allen, was born May 25, 1962 at the Allen Hospital. The family moved for Dad to attended Tulane University and studied Hospital Administration and after move back to Austin. Their second child, Myra Jane Allen, was born in Austin at Brackenridge Hospital on August 8, 1970.

    In 1970 the family of four moved to Hawaiian Islands were they lived for next 8 years. Thrasher worked during this time he worked as a Hospital Administrator.  In 1978 the family of four moved back to Burnet, Texas.  Soon after moving to Burnet Thrasher and Judy decided to buy The Oaks Nursing Home.  The Oaks Nursing Home grew through two enlargements and for several years became the largest private employer in Burnet County.  During this time of Thrasher’s hobbies were horseback riding and roping events in Burnet County.  Also, he loved canoeing as a child through college. After the family moved back to Texas he and Myra would canoe all the Highland Lakes. Thrasher and Judy developed a love for square dancing and attended events in Kingsland and Burnet County.  The family attended church at The First Baptist Church of Burnet and Thrasher was very involved with the church and was a high school Sunday school teacher for several years. Thrasher was very involved in organizations throughout the community of Burnet County.

    In 2009 Thrasher and Judy decided to sell The Oaks Nursing Home to retire and spend more time with two beloved two grandsons.  2010 Thrasher and Judy built Country Oaks at Hamilton Creek Assisted Living and moved there in 2012.  In July of this year Thrasher moved to be closer to daughter and family in San Marcos.  On September 27, 2020 in the evening Thrasher passed away.

    Thrasher was preceded in death by wife, Judy, in 2013 and oldest daughter, Mary, in 2017.  He is survived by, his youngest sister, Sarah Allen McGinty, living in Burnet with her husband David McGinty. Also, by his daughter, Myra, living in San Marcos with her husband Scott and their two sons Trevor and Trent.

    A graveside service was held at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park on Saturday October 3, 2020 at 1pm officiated by Tim Denton.
