Carl Spinner Obituary

Carl E. Spinner of Burnet, TX passed away on February 3, 2021.
He was born in San Antonio, TX on January 12, 1952. Growing up the middle child of five, son of Richard
A. and Velma M. Spinner, he lived the life of an Air Force brat. While the family spent most of the time
stationed in San Antonio, Carl had fond memories of living in Crete, Indiana, and Hawaii. He graduated
from Churchill High School in San Antonio in 1970. He received a Bachelor of the Arts in Plan II in 1974
and a Master’s in Public Accounting in 1977, both from the University of Texas at Austin.
After working for an accounting firm, Carl went out on his own to develop a practice using his
accounting skills and his understanding of people. He was very active in the Burnet Presbyterian Church
(and previously Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church) and also served on several committees in Mission
Presbytery including Camps and Conferences, Committee on Ministry, and General Counsel. He
dedicated to his faith, and serving the Presbyterian Church was his way of putting his faith into action.
He believed our faith should be sourced from love, guided by study, celebrated through worship, and
enacted through service.
Carl loved life and lived it to its fullest. He enjoyed traveling, savoring food, toasting and laughing. He
loved history. His appreciation of life’s moments was contagious. Despite all of his work and church
commitments, he was present for his family, whatever the distance, whatever the difficulty. He was a
man of integrity and principle without pretense. His family will remember him as a loving dad and
grandpa who will be sorely missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Velma Mae Spinner. He is survived by his wife Marsha Spinner;
children Chris Spinner, Erin Cavazos (Omar) and Richard Spinner (Geri); and seven dearly loved
grandchildren: Ryan, Lily, Clara, Lexi, Austin, Michael, and David. He is also survived by his father, Rev.
Richard A. Spinner, HR; siblings Richard Spinner, Frank Spinner, Eva Jones, and Lyndon Spinner and their
spouses; and numerous but dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is being planned for the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Burnet Presbyterian Church or John Knox Ranch Presbyterian Camp.
