Bonnie Barker Obituary

Bonnie Marie Barker was born on February 8, 1933, in Claremont, Texas, to Clyde and Emma May Beam. In 1959, she moved to Marble Falls, where she met and married the love of her life, Jim Barker. Together, they blended their families into their very own “Brady Bunch,” creating a loving and lively home.

Throughout her life, Bonnie wore many hats. She worked at Western Auto, Atwood’s Leisure Club at Horseshoe Bay, and, alongside Jim, managed the Best Western hotel in Llano. She also served faithfully as the church secretary at First Assembly for many years. Bonnie loved organizing church luncheons and was well known for her hospitality—often feeding much of Marble Falls from her own kitchen. She was a true servant at heart, always making sure there was plenty of food to share with neighbors and friends.

In her younger years, Bonnie was an avid ball player. She spoke fondly of her time on the field and the women she played with. She loved the game and had a fiercely competitive spirit, whether at the ballpark, on the field, around the kitchen table playing board games, or sitting in a folding chair playing dominoes. While she loved to play, she especially loved cheering on her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors.

Bonnie was also a writer and poet, with a knack for making up the silliest songs to sing to her grandchildren. Above all, she loved the Lord. She spent time in His word and lived her life as a light for Him. She was the strength and backbone of her family—if you needed advice or prayer, you called “Mamoo.”

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: ‘There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.”
— Proverbs 31:25–31

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Barker; her sons, Rickey Briggs and Danny Briggs; and her great-granddaughter, Corie Grace Pfitzner.

She is survived by her children: Johnny Briggs and wife Debby, Dwayne Briggs and wife Sherelle, Rhonda Kemp, Robert Barker, and Chip Barker and wife Karen; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and many beloved friends and extended family.

Mom. Mamoo. You are deeply loved and will be truly missed—until we see you again.
