Betty Jo "Nanny" Dennis Obituary

Betty Jo Dennis passed away from natural causes at her home in Bracketville, Texas on Tuesday January 5th 2021. She was surrounded by her loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Brackettville, where she was a member.

Betty Jo Kelley was born November 5, 1930, to Paul and Minnie (Lackey) Kelley, at Fort Clark where her father was stationed.  She was raised in Mineral Wells, Texas where she graduated from High School, met and married Jones K. Dennis. Together they had 3 daughters, Debra, Donna and Denise.

Mrs. Dennis loved the outdoors especially her ranch on the Pinto, where she and her late husband retired to in 1986. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with her family and friends. Many summers were spent with grandchildren at the Fort Clark pool. In her youth she was an avid swimmer and she insisted on teaching her kids to swim at an early age. She never shied away from the boys when it came to hunting, fishing or playing golf. She held her own and took great pride in being a true Texas woman.  Her hobbies included games. She loved bridge and poker and any board game you could think of; and she always played by the rules. She applied those same rules to her life, and expected the same of others.  More than anything she had an uncanny ability to always be cheerful; despite any hardship she always found a way to look on the bright side. She never met a stranger. Her laughter will echo in the hearts of everyone that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband J.K. Dennis and is survived by her 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
