Andrea Carol (Long) Holt left this earth on August 14, 2023 for a peaceful and pain free Heavenly Home. She was at home at the time of her passing surrounded by family and friends.
Andrea was born on March 20, 1975 in Norman, Oklahoma to Jesse Wayne and Judith Long. The family moved to Hobbs, NM in 1980. Andrea made many friends while in Hobbs during her elementary and early school days. She attended Maciolek School of Dance in Hobbs and found her love for ballet, tap and jazz. The family moved to Albuquerque, NM where Andrea attended and graduated from La Cueva High School in 1993. Andrea attended UNM in Albuquerque,NM and NMSU in Las Cruces, NM.
Eventually she moved to the “Hill Country” in Texas where she met Doug Day. She had a beautiful singing voice and soon she and Doug teamed up and became the house band at Canyon of the Eagles and played many private gigs in the area. Her stage name was Shoogie and soon became Aunt Shoogie to nephews. Doug and “Shoogie” did a three month “gig” in Japan. She loved it but told us she was glad to get home and have macaroni and cheese and that she was the tallest one there.
In addition to being an accomplished singer, Andrea was a talented artist. She created many beautiful paintings. She painted from her heart and her feelings and you can see that in each of her paintings.
Moving back to Hobbs in 2007. Andrea attended NMJC and graduated the RN nursing program in 2010. After obtaining her RN license, Andrea moved to the Burnet, Texas area to practice nursing. She worked for Girling Home Health, Bertram Nursing and Rehab and Granite Mesa in Marble Falls. Andrea was a kind and caring nurse. All of her patients loved her because she went above and beyond and was so compassionate.
Andrea met Roger Holt while she was singing at the Canyon of the Eagles. He was the love of her life. They married on May 18, 2019. Andrea and Roger loved life and enjoyed fishing, boating and taking their jet ski out at Lake Buchanan. Andrea loved her “fur babies” and she and Roger took care of the neighborhood cats and kittens. One of Andrea’s joys was to sit on the front porch and watch all the kittens come around to eat. Andrea and Roger have many caring friends who loved Andrea dearly. Roger has been by her side and been a wonderful husband and has cared for her lovingly during her illness.
Andrea is dancing in Heaven with her loved ones who preceded her in death: Jesse Wayne Long, father; Mary and Don White, maternal grandparents, Polly and Rube Long, paternal grandparents; Janie Chambless, aunt. Nieces Danielle Dawes and Shannon Dawes.
