Kevin Herring Obituary

Kevin Warren Herring, 48 years old, of Briggs, Texas passed away in Temple, Texas on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Kevin was born in Lampasas, Texas on April 25, 1971 to his father, Kenneth Herring, and his mother, Shannon (Clark) Herring. Living his entire life on the “Briggs Prairie”, he was a 7th generation full time farmer/rancher extremely proud to carry on his family’s ranching legacy of over 100 years. Kevin graduated from Burnet High School and earned an Associate’s degree in Agriculture from Central Texas College. He served as an elected representative for 9 years on the county committee for the Farm Service Agency and for several years on the Burnet County Livestock Show Board. Kevin loved kids, the outdoors, and animals of all kinds - bringing home strays of all species. Always trying to find ways to be involved in the community, he was one of the founders of the Briggs 4H club, assisting with activities for 8 years including tirelessly rounding up the “buying” committee’s dollars for stock show sales for the Briggs kids and helping local kids find animals to show. He willingly chaperoned field trips (even riding the bus with 1st graders) for both Cody and Callie during their early school years. When a softball coach couldn’t be found and local girls would not have a team, Kevin stepped up and took on the challenge, even allowing the girls to shave his head when they finally won their first game. Kevin loved to hunt, fish, and explore the mountains with his family, treasuring the hard-earned vacations with them and conversations about the adventures with his son.

Preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Herring, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary Alice Herring; son Cody Zane McKeever; daughter Callie Layne Herring; mother Shannon Herring; sister Diana Holifield and husband Richard; nephews Justin Holifield, Stephen McKeever, Holden Holifield, Hayden Holifield; nieces Diana McKeever, Chelsey Holifield; as well as many extended family members and friends.
