Joe Modarelli, Sr passed from his temporary home to his permanent home on November 21, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was a faithful loving Christian, son, brother, husband, father, Grampy, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law and friend to anyone who knew him. Joe was born May 7, 1953 to Sylvester “Bud” and Donna Modarelli in Youngstown, Ohio. He moved to Odessa in 1968 and to what he called God’s Country, or known to others as the Hill Country, Bluffton, Texas in 2014.
Joe Modarelli is survived by his wife of 32 years Wanda Modarelli, daughter Maegan Robertson, son Joseph James Modarelli II, daughter-in-law Rachel Modarelli, grandson John Gabriel Robertson, mother Donna Modarelli, three sisters Diane Guillen, Tina Richey, Phyllis Modarelli, brother Steve Modarelli and wife Linda Modarelli along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his Father Bud Modarelli.
Joe graduated from Permian High School in 1971. He worked for Roadway for 37 years, retiring in 2014. Joe was also a proud member of the Teamsters. While living in Odessa, Joe and Wanda attended First Baptist Church. When they moved to the Hill Country they became members of First Baptist Church Kingsland. In his retirement Joe and Wanda built their dream home with the million dollar view. There, in God’s Country, Joe thrived as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and huntingand spending time on the lake. Joe was an out of this world cook that loved to feed his family and friends. As an accomplished cook he enjoyed passing his skills on to all. His awesome food will be sorely missed by everyone blessed enough to eat at his table.
Joe was a very devoted family man and encourager of his children. He was so very proud of them and their accomplishments. Maegan currently serves as Assistant Auditor for Llano County. Joseph is a Geneticist for Q2 in Durham, North Carolina where his wife Rachel is a Pediatric Resident at Duke University. His grandson Gabe continues to pursue his education and his dreams to make his Grampy proud.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church in Kingsland, TX on Tuesday, November 26 at 1pm. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Library, 7346
