Dolores Whitman Obituary

Dolores Vargas Whitman, 89, of Kingsland ,  passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019, 5 days short of her 90th birthday. 

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Jenkins Funeral Home with interment to follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, Burnet, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p,m,, Friday, January 3, 2020 at Jenkins Funeral Home, Burnet, Texas.

The family will have a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday Jan. 18, 2020 at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Marble Falls Tx.

She was born in San Antonio Tx. January 3, 1930 to Manuel and Linna Vargas,  Dolores graduated from Texas Christian University in 1947, She married W.A.  “Bill” Brackett in 1955, raised her three children in Midland Tx., then retired and relocated to the Texas Hill Country in 1983. Dolores served as City Secretary for the City of Granite Shoals after the death of husband, and eventually found love again with Robert Wesley Whitman in 1993.

Dolores was loved and admired by her many friends and enjoyed spending time with her children, Grandchildren & great-grandchildren.   She was a lover of classical music , a talented piano player, in her younger years, and was a fierce competitor to anyone who challenged her to a game of Farkle, but found her greatest joy serving her church family as an elder for St. Andrews Presbyterian Church,  She also made many of her greatest friends volunteering for the Marble Falls Library Thrift Store.

She is survived by her two daughters, Becky Brackett and Pamella Kinsella, both of Kingsland, and her seven grandchildren,  Toby Mendenhall, Melanie Ybarra, Derrick Ybarra,  Sasha Sankowsky, Nicholas Sankowsky, Thomas Kohlmeyer, Stephen Kohlmeyer, and spouses, Dolores was preceded in death by her first husband and love of her life: William A. Brackett, second husband: Robert W. Whitman,  and only son: William Brett Brackett, She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her loving spirit, kind heart and deeds who touched many, and  her love of the Lord, will be in our hearts and minds forever.
