Calvin "Cal" Coolidge Skaggs, 94, passed away on August 22, 2019. Cal was born in Amarillo on December 7, 1924 to James Madison and Maye Mary Davis Skaggs. He was raised in Pampa, Texas and Lefors, Texas, where he graduated from Lefors High School. Upon graduation Cal enlisted in the United States Air Force, starting out as a cadet but was soon reassigned to the Army Infantry. He served in Austria and France under General George Patton, a man whom he respected greatly.
Upon his discharge from the Army, Cal moved back to Texas. He and Betty lived in the Burnet and Marble Falls area for more than 40 years, where he was a custom home builder and land developer. Cal had many hobbies, which included raising horses, golfing and dancing. He was also known for his love of unique and stylish hats.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, J.D. Skaggs and Fred Skaggs; along with his sister, Jewel House.
Cal is survived by Betty Skaggs; daughters, Kathi Lavine and Jan Branscome and husband Randy; step-son, Jim Luther, Jr. and wife Sara Ann; step-daughters, Tina Luther and husband Chris, and Leslie Luther; grandchildren, Becca Ensley, Jess and Hunter Luther, Jason Branson, and Ari Shivers; nephews, Danny Skaggs and wife Kara, Dennis Skaggs and wife Gaye, and Steve Skaggs, along with many nieces and nephews.
